Wren JamesAbout Me I am a Year 13 A-Level student studying English Literature, Religious Studies/Philosophy, and Photography. Throughout my time at school, I have consistently worked at a high level, gaining 9 grade 9s at GCSE, and having been predicted 2 A*s and 1 A for A-Level. I have been continually praised for my hard work and in-depth analytical skills, which has allowed me to gain great insight and knowledge about my subjects, both inside the classroom and out. I have participated in extra-curricular activities such as the St John’s College Oxford Inspire Program and Keats’ House Writing Program to great success, and my creative writing has been published in the International Times. I have also won awards in school for Religious Studies and Drama, showing my continuing enthusiasm and aptitude for the subjects. English Literature has always been a passion of mine, so that persuaded me to study it at university - I currently hold all five of my UCAS offers for the universities of East Anglia, Cardiff, Manchester, Aberystwyth, and Edinburgh, with additional specialisation in Creative Writing at East Anglia, Cardiff, and Aberystwyth. I am on track to achieving my predictions, which will stand me in good stead for a great university career. Since this has been so recent, I will be able to guide tutees through the processes needed to put in a good application, particularly surrounding personal statements. If any help is needed with preparing a creative writing portfolio, then I would be happy to help with that, since I have received praise for mine from the University of East Anglia earlier this year. I am often called upon to explain complicated concepts to my peers, and am able to do so to good understanding, and I am quick at picking up gaps in knowledge and working towards refining them, both in myself and others. My explanations are clear, thorough and in-depth, while also being concise as to not be too overwhelming. About the Sessions You can count on me to fit the specifications to each individual tutee as I am aware that generalised methods do not always apply to all students. As I become more accustomed to each tutee, my methods will alter to best fit their needs and raise them to their full potential. Of course, this would be built on a basis of open communication to allow each student to flourish in a safe space. Thorough preparation will take place every session to fit each student’s needs; finding the most helpful resources, workbooks, and revision techniques that will boost their confidence in the subject, and encouraging them to uphold these study habits in the future. I am a firm believer that understanding is the key to effective learning, so I want to establish a clear grasp on each subject before moving on to exam technique. My lessons will involve working through sample questions and together formulating the best approach to them, while encouraging the student with verbal and written feedback - I am happy to take on and mark any practice questions/papers. It is through this that I can identify strengths and flaws and aim to build the student up to be a great all-rounder. My sessions will run online, as this will be less restrictive to potential students, and online spaces will allow for real-time constructive feedback during and after the sessions.
